The Challenge
Tasked with delivering a turnkey operation for Fitzroy Resources' new underground mine, Ironbark No. 1, ABM Contractors faced the challenge of creating a cost-effective and safe methodology for highwall stabilisation while ensuring precise execution. In addition, portal segment installation, drift access, mine services establishment, and mine development, including fault drivage. The project demanded adherence to tight timelines and strict budget constraints, requiring both innovation and expertise.
The Delivery
The Solution
ABM Contractors' approach integrated technical expertise with operational excellence. By deploying experienced mining, tunnelling, and drifting teams, ABM ensured the safe and efficient completion of all major works. The project progressed smoothly through the successful installation of portal segments, excavation of twin drifts, and the commencement of first coal development, as well as ongoing fault drivage within the seam using road headers.

The Outcome
ABM Contractors completed each phase of the Ironbark No. 1 complex ahead of schedule, under budget, and with an outstanding safety performance during high-risk activities. ABM's strategic involvement laid the foundation for continuous, safe mining operations, further cementing ABM’s reputation for delivering high-quality, turnkey solutions in the mining industry.
